“We will be the largest facility of high-performance photovoltaic cells and modules in Europe, with an annual production of 3 GW per year. Excellence, innovation, and sustainability are our pillars to build state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels, able to compete with the big players in the market. Our modules are based on 3SUN CORE-H heterojunction technology, fully developed in-house. This technology is indeed the core of our solar products, which are divided into two types of markets: utility scale (solar plants) and distributed generation (residential and commercial use). Our product portfolio shares market-leading features such as high efficiency, superior performance, and excellent reliability. We have also developed a highly automated and traceable state-of-the-art manufacturing process because we are committed to environmental and social sustainability to achieve a low carbon footprint and a traceable and transparent supply chain.”

Thanks to the TANGO project, 3Sun factory, founded in Catania in 2010, is set to become Europe’s largest factory producing high-performance bifacial photovoltaic modules. 3Sun Gigafactory combines research and innovation to produce new-generation photovoltaic modules that support the Enel Group in guaranteeing clean and renewable energy and building a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly world.
In April 2022, EGP and the European Commission signed the grant agreement, under the framework of the EU’s first Innovation Fund call for large-scale projects. It will contribute to the development of TANGO (iTaliAN pv Giga factOry), an industrial-scale production facility for the manufacturing of innovative, sustainable and high-performance photovoltaic modules at 3Sun. The factory’s expansion is set to result in a 15-fold increase in its production capacity to 3 GW per year from the current 200 MW. This will increase local direct and indirect employment by approximately 1,000 jobs by 2024. It will also act as a catalyst for the relaunch of the European PV value chain and contribute to the reduction of the continent’s energy dependency.
